Kona Hawaii Fishing Report – March 4, 2015 – The fishing in Kona for Mahi Mahi and Spearfish continues to be very good right now and this past week we caught several nice short billed spearfish for clients and good numbers of large Mahi Mahi as well. Also typical for this time of year in Kona are good numbers of striped marklin and a few Ono or Wahoo are also showing up in advance of their late Spring migration through the Kona area. Check out the photos and video below from a few fishing charters this past week.

In addition to the smaller pelagic species being caught, there are still some really nice Blue Marlin hanging around. This past week we had a nice Blue Marlin (500 pound class) come up in the spread and knock a few baits around, but we couldn’t close deal and make it eat. A couple of smaller blue marlin were caught this week by others in the fleet, including one that was estimated at over 600 pounds that was caught while trolling through a porpoise school. There are some good schools of bait showing up, which is promising and will hopefully bring in the bigger fish and concentrate them for easier location. The weather along the Kona coast has been really nice this past week, with just a small swell from arctic storms coming down, but the overall conditions were good and the prospect remain so for the coming week. Call us and ask about our Winter Fishing Charter Specials. It’s a great time to fish, especially if you are looking to take a few Mahi Mahi filets home.

Kona Fishing Report August 11, 2021 – Nice Ono on an Afternoon Fishing Charter

Probably one of the best things about fishing in Kona is the fact you can catch any number of species on any given day within a few minutes of leaving the slip. Because of this, even on a 4-hour afternoon fishing charter, it is possible to catch a giant blue marlin or just something delicious to throw on the grill for dinner.
