Kona Fishing Report August 7, 2021 – Morning Ahi Bite

Kona Fishing Report
Published on Aug 07, 2021

Brian O’Snow and his family joined us today for a ¾-day fishing charter in Kona and went home with some fresh Ahi Tuna Filets. The Tuna fishing in Kona has been very good the past month with fish to 160+ pounds. While the best fishing has been on the afternoon tide change, with lots of fish rolling and boiling on the surface, making easy work of locating large schools, this nice fish weighing about 130 pounds showed up in the morning.

The weather is ideal right now with strong, consistent trade winds blowing from the Northeast. The water and tide conditions are also favorable and as long as the trade winds continue blowing, expect better than average fishing for Tuna here in Kona.

The Summer months of June through September is the best season for fishing here in Kona. During this time, all the major species are present like Blue Marlin, Short Billed Spearfish, Ono, Mahi Mahi and Ahi Tuna. Typically, the waters are very calm here in Kona and protected from the favorable Northeast Trade Winds that bring in the fish to the islands. This is also one of the busiest times for tourism in Kona, so if you are planning a trip in the near future, be sure to book well in advance to secure the most popular dates and times.

We look forward to seeing you in Kona very soon.

Aloha,
