Fishing Catch Report February 20, 2016 – Kona, Hawaii – The fishing has been up and down lately, but seems to be picking up a bit on the building side of the moon.  Earlier this week we tagged and released nice Blue Marlin about 400 lbs. on a half day fishing charter.  The day before that we tagged and released a pair of Striped Marlin we caught on a double header with one of the fish going about 40 lbs. and the second fish going about 60 lbs. That same day we missed a Shortbilled Spearfish that came up in the spread, but we were never able to connect.  Elsewhere, a few other boats were also seeing some good action with one tagging and releasing a nice Blue Marlin they estimated to be about 700 Lbs. and another boat in the area tagged 3 for 4 Marlin on the same trip.

As we wind up February and look forward to March, expect the Shortbilled Spearfish to show up in good numbers.  We have been having very good luck the past month catching this prized and rarest of all billfish species.  Typically, the month of March is the height of their migration through the Hawaiian Islands and anglers from around the world come to Kona this time of year to target this rare Billfish.  Over the next few months, we should also start to see more and more Ono (Wahoo) showing up with the Full Moon in May usually signalling the peak time for targeting this great eating fish.

If you are planning on heading to Kona in the next few months, be sure to book your fishing charters early, especially the popular summer months.  If you are interested in Fishing a Tournament this year in Kona, check all the dates for the major events on our Tournaments Page and confirm your reservations early.  You can check our available for any fishing charter and book your charters right on our website or Facebook page for our lowest rates.  We hope to see you on Kona this year.

Aloha,
Capt. Jeff Fay

Kona Fishing Report August 11, 2021 – Nice Ono on an Afternoon Fishing Charter

Probably one of the best things about fishing in Kona is the fact you can catch any number of species on any given day within a few minutes of leaving the slip. Because of this, even on a 4-hour afternoon fishing charter, it is possible to catch a giant blue marlin or just something delicious to throw on the grill for dinner.
